Reinhard Clever was born on Columbus Day in 1953. He spent the first half of his life in Germany and the second half in the United States. He first set foot on American soil during the Bicentennial in 1976. Having received a Fulbright scholarship to study in the United States, he graduated with an MBA degree from the University of Miami in Florida in 1977. Reinhard went to work in the air freight forwarding business before joining Flying Tigers. He stayed with the all cargo airline, holding several marketing and pricing positions, until it was bought by Federal Express. Reinhard continued as an aviation consultant before returning to the university to earn his Ph.D. in Transportation Engineering.
He is now working as a consultant in private practice.
